Things I Learned In June 2016

"I have looked upon all the Universe has to hold of horror, and even the skies of spring and the flowers of summer must ever afterward be poison to me."
H.P. Lovecraft
'The Call of Cthulhu'

July comes in wet, hot, tropical rainstorms. Grey afternoon skies. Whiskey and spices. Banana leaves and old book smells. Deep polished mahogany and crystals. This mermaid life, this jungle life. Vanilla, tobacco and sweet musk. Sandalwood and rum. Moody skies and electric air. Gold glitter on my skin. Perfume and sweat.

Blog-reboot! Things I learned in May!

"Behind all things are reasons. Reasons can even explain the absurd. Do we have the time to learn the reasons behind the human being's varied behavior? I think not. Some take the time. Are they called detectives? Watch — and see what life teaches."

Things I Learned In April 2016

Oh hi May! I survived another month. The world is full of cherry blossom and the blue sky smells of Spring flowers and rain on hot concrete. Liverpool is waking up and life is fucking awesome.

Ramblings About Recovery, Eating Disorder Stuff and Body Positivity

I struggled to pick a photo for this post. I went with the cute one, because it is my favourite. And the photo that most surprised me. I am amazed by how healthy and happy I look, and also actually am. And, while this guy is most certainly the right one, it is really not about finding the right dude. It's much more about avoiding the wrong dudes. And being your own best girlfriend <3

The Dermatillomania Situation

I'm sitting down to write this post in an effort to break out of a dermatillomania binge my brain and hands seem determined to continue indefinitely this afternoon. I figure it might help to write it out, and typing seems easier than finding my journal right now. Because I just want to stop fucking picking!

Self Care, Rainy Days, Bleeding

This post will contain graphic references to my lady-parts, so reader discretion is advised. It's probably too much information, consider yourselves warned!

It can't rain all the time, but it is raining today. And sometimes all I can do is rest and build a pillow-fort and wait for the sun to shine again. Naps are good. Hugs are awesome. Chocolate is my drug of choice.

Ramblings on Self Love, Social Media, and Pizza

At 31 I finally learned how to love my body completely. After a lifetime of eating disorder issues, various self-injuries, all of the scars, both physical and emotional, both deliberately inflicted and accidental. In this moment, somehow, all of the aspects of my self come together and I love all that I am. Perfectly imperfect.

The Feedback-Scarred, Devotionless

This mermaid life. This silent Heaven. This scorched earth Afterworld where there are no limits, no rules, no Gods, no Monsters.

Slide

Oh hi December 5th. Life is good in this place and in this moment. Toxteth, Liverpool. The little flat with the giant cemetery for a backyard. I'm learning a little more everyday about how to live this mermaid life. And I love it, with all my soul <3

Things I Learned In November 2015

So, it's the last day of November (seriously?!), and I'm at Jessibat Towers in Leeds. And it's time for my November round-up. It's been quite the adventure :)

Things I learned in September 2015

Oh hi! This is me, and here are some of the things I learned this September! I'm using the note page at the end of each month's section in my Erin Condren Life Planner to list that month's random lessons :) Always something to learn!

Trich or Treat! It's BFRB Awareness Week!

BFRB Awareness Week is here again! Body Focused Repetitive Behaviour (BFRB) Awareness week runs from the 1st through to the 7th of October each year. This week is also Invisible Illness Awareness Week. As a person living with both trichotillomania and dermatillomania (or possibly a hybrid mash-up of both disorders), the vast majority of my health struggles are invisible. Today I want to talk about living with BFRB and hopefully raise awareness for this seriously underrepresented family of illnesses.
